Remember: We are working with news organisations, so timing is key! Any tips?

Keep an eye out for newsworthy content and keep these things in mind:

  • Make sure you video in landscape orientation. It's the key to getting your content in the news, or even published. It's also an industry standard.
  • Upload your content as soon as possible. Newsrooms are looking for footage of breaking news events as soon as they've occurred. Contributors who submit their exclusive content quickly also tend to be the most successful.
  • Avoid sharing videos or photos on social media, other websites, or even with your friends. The value of your content depends on its exclusivity. Unfortunately, we can’t control where your media ends up, or who downloads it if you post it on social media or any other website.
  • Your safety is of the utmost importance. Please ensure you don't put yourself in harm's way when filming your content.
  • Ensure the content you upload is your own and that you have full rights to it.
  • Sometimes, less is more. If you’ve filmed a long video, consider reducing its length.
  • Don’t compress the video before uploading it. Share the full-sized version with us and we’ll take care of the rest.

What rights do I have to my content?

You’ve filmed the video, you’re its owner. It’s as simple as that. iWitnessUpload is simply selling the rights for a media organisation to broadcast your content.

Is it illegal to film someone without their permission?

In Australia, if you are in a public space there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. You are able to film people for the purposes of edification or journalism without the requirement to obtain release forms or even consent. This also includes police, if it is not interfering with a crime scene.

What kind of rights do publishers have with my content?

Once purchased, the purchasing broadcaster can use your content on any of their mediums (broadcast, web, print, social media, etc) while also having the ability to edit your videos and photos to fit their needs.

My upload is very slow/not working and I don't know why?

Uploading times will always vary depending on your file size, file length, internet bandwidth, and upload traffic. Usually, uploads can take anywhere from a few seconds to a number of minutes. If your upload seems stuck, or is taking a long time, try the following:

  • Try uploading with your WiFi connection turned off. The 4G/5G network (depending on your provider/signal strength) can be up to ten times faster than your current WiFi connection.

  • End or pause any activities on your network that might be consuming large amounts of bandwidth (Netflix, online games, uploads or downloads running at the same time in other tabs etc.)

  • Reduce the length of your videos (check out these handy guides): IOS / Android

  • Compress your videos before uploading with these free apps: IOS / Android
Please contact iWitnessUpload if you continue to have any issues!
